State Disaster Response Force (SDRF)

The Disaster Management Act 2005 has made a statutory provision for Constitution of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) for the purpose of specialized response to natural and man-made disasters. Accordingly, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) have set up and trained 1 (one) Company each of 9th IR, 10th IR, 13th IR, 14th IR, 15th IR, and all the 11 Districts Executive Forces (DEFs) and Village Guards of Tuensang. While we have trained SDRF personnel from Police, they cannot be utilized on a full-time basis as they are basically for Law and Order duty and the NSDMA felt the importance of setting up a full time dedicated SDRF to provide timely response in the event of disaster. With the objective of having full time dedicated personnel, 240 (Two Hundred Forty) personnel from amongst the Civil Defence and Home Guards have been drawn and imparted training as a Special Force for response to disasters. The Personnel for the dedicated SDRF have been selected through proper screening and examination. These personnel are stationed in 8 (Eight) Key Locations Point in the State for responding to disaster promptly and effectively. Though a dedicated SDRF have been drawn from Civil Defence & Home Guards, the other SDRF trained from IRB/DEF and Village Guard will act as a back-up force during a large-scale disaster, so as to create a proper order during emergency. The Govt. of Nagaland realizing the need for preparedness to natural calamity have trained and put in place a dedicated State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) from amongst the personnel of Civil Defence & Home Guards. The 240 (Two Hundred Forty) SDRF Personnel of Civil Defence & Home Guards will be dedicated exclusively for Disaster Management. During the normal times, these Personnel will carry out awareness programme in Villages, Schools and Colleges and in an event of disaster they will be the first line response for Search & Rescue Operations.
